The Power of Solitude
I recently spent just over a week in London, which was a mix of personal and professional events. I basically didn’t read at all when I was there and I realised how much I need to be alone to get in the headspace to read. Since getting home on Friday (it’s now Sunday) I’ve read two books, compared to zero across my nine days in London.
I think to look at me, most people would consider me an extrovert, but I get deep peace from solitude, which rarely slips into loneliness. I’m not sure why I need this mental headspace to read, but I think I need to be more conscious of it to prioritise my reading in future.
In any case, the lack of reading was more than worth it for all the things I did while in London, including seeing friends and family, going to ABBA Voyage, managing to see A Streetcar Named Desire and being able to accomplish some professional achievements. I have a busy month coming up with work and I’m also moving flat at the end of May so I’m hoping I can save space for reading. Let’s see how I get on!
